Insrtuctors

 Crystal

Crystal is PoleFIT Revolution's advanced instructor.  She has been pole dancing for 3 years and 2 years at an advanced level.  She currently teaches beginner through advanced mixed level classes.

Why did you start pole dancing?

Because for me, I have always LOVED to dance and always wanted to do something gymnastic but just never did.  Pole dance was a great mix of both for me.  I love the grace and fluidity it has brought out in me and I have seen so many amazing dancers that make me feel like I can reach the stars - or rather climb there myself.

What made you become an instructor?

Well the short story is I realized that while I was self taught I had built up this immense amount of knowledge about pole dancing.  Mostly because I had made so many mistakes like losing the dance aspect and focusing on tricks, I realized these experiences could be beneficial to others.  But mostly, I just love pole dancing, it's become my passion over everything else.  I want to learn every trick, swivel with every nuance and I want others to feel the way I feel.  I was so small and thin when I started and I never imagined I would ever be strong - it wasn't my body type.  I was frail.  But through just playing around and having fun I have built up strength and flexibility that I never thought I could have.

Do you have a favorite song to dance to?

I have too many actually!  I really love dancing to singer/songwriter music because I started out as a musician so that music speaks to me and evokes a lot of emotion.  I also love heavy rock and mainstream hip hop.

What is your favorite move?

Well, there are a ton.  For spins I love the simple fireman - there so many different ways to do it!  I also love the reverse grab that we teach our intermediates.  I love being upside down!  My favorite inverted move is probably the handspring or the aysha.  Those two were a struggle for me so I have so much pride doing them.  Honestly, just transitional slow movements do it for me every time.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

I think getting Wendy Traskos for the USPDF and NYPD to come to our studio - professionally is my greatest accomplishment.  If you mean pole things I would have to say I haven't made it yet.  I am really proud of my aerial silks classes right now, and I am really proud to have actually performed basic aerial work in front of people. I also danced for the mayor which was weird.

What do you want PoleFIT Revolutions to walk away with after class?

I want them to feel strong, sexy and in charge,  Whatever thing about your body you want to change you can but pole dancing or chair dancing just enhances every curve and each movement - I hope they are enjoying their bodies and seeing themselves for the beautiful creatures they are.  Ultimately I know how women suffer with insecurity - we all do at some point and I want them to see there is no reason to be insecure.  Pole will definitely change your body but it also changes your mind and soul.  I love seeing women after a few weeks of pole dancing because they are so different from when they walked in.  They are stronger sure, but they definitely seem like they are happier and motivated and having fun and unafraid of it all.
